TALUS carries supplies from rear Brigade Support Areas, the Army's main stockpile points behind the front, forward to smaller, scattered units that may be operating in places too dangerous for a crewed convoy.
The vehicle uses autonomous navigation, meaning onboard software reads sensors and maps to drive itself without a human at the wheel. It is built on militarised commercial hardware rather than bespoke military components, a deliberate choice to speed up delivery and cut development risk. Its modular design lets the Army swap the cargo section to carry ammunition, fuel, food, or other mission equipment depending on what the front needs that day.
"The Army needs more than another autonomous vehicle," said Mark Gordon, Stratom's president and CEO. "It needs an integrated logistics capability that can adapt to the mission, operate in contested environments, and move quickly toward fielding."
Who built it and how does the autonomy work?
Stratom leads the team and handles overall integration. Four partners each bring a specific piece. ND Defense contributes existing military vehicle platforms. Forterra, a company with government-validated autonomy software, supplies what it calls AutoDrive, the software stack that makes the vehicle steer, brake and route itself. GS Engineering handles systems engineering and testing. Waltonen Engineering covers hardware design and fabrication.

None of those names are Lockheed Martin or General Dynamics. That is deliberate. Gordon said Stratom chose smaller, specialist firms because each one brings a proven, focused capability rather than a broad portfolio.

This is an 18-month prototype effort. Soldiers will get hands-on time with TALUS during a planned Combat Training Center rotation, a large-scale military exercise where the Army evaluates new equipment under realistic conditions. The results of those evaluations will decide whether TALUS moves toward wider deployment.
For ordinary people, the clearest implication is this: if autonomous logistics works in military conditions, the same underlying technology tends to find civilian uses within a decade.
