Robots have a training problem. A large language model, the technology behind chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude, learns from trillions of text examples found across the internet. A robot learning to pick up a glass, open a door, or sort packages gets a tiny fraction of that data volume. And software simulations, however detailed, cannot perfectly copy the friction, wobble, and chaos of the real world.
NEURA Robotics, based in Metzingen, Germany, thinks the answer is a purpose-built gym. Not for people. For robots.
What exactly is a NEURA Gym?
A NEURA Gym is a large facility where robots repeatedly perform physical tasks while sensors record every movement, force, and outcome. That real-world data is then combined with high-fidelity simulation, a detailed computer recreation of physical environments, to build richer training sets.
All of that information feeds into Neuraverse, NEURA's open, cloud-based development platform where companies can test robot behaviour for their specific needs before committing to a full factory or hospital rollout. The idea is to cut the risk and the wait time of adopting robots at scale.
Where will these facilities open, and when?
NEURA is building 10 facilities in total. Five are expected to be running by the end of 2026.

The Robot Report first reported details of the Aachen site. RWTH's rector, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Rüdiger, said the gym "takes our transfer strategy to a new level" and called it "a unique infrastructure for the skilled professionals of tomorrow."
Each gym will share NEURA's core technology platform but specialise according to the strengths of its local academic and industry partners.
What does this mean for ordinary people?
In the short term, not much changes in daily life. These facilities are research and development spaces, not consumer products.
Over the next few years, though, robots trained here are aimed squarely at industries that most people interact with: car manufacturing, hospital logistics, warehouse fulfilment. Better-trained robots could mean faster deliveries, less physically punishing work for factory employees, and more reliable automation in clinical settings.
