Perplexity's Personal Computer is an AI agent (software that carries out multi-step tasks on its own) that the company has now brought to Windows. It sits inside your operating system, opens files, and handles tasks you'd otherwise do yourself.
What does this tool actually do?
Personal Computer acts as a general-purpose worker inside your operating system. You type or speak an instruction and the agent handles the steps: opening a file, filling in data, composing a message.
Perplexity describes it as built for "the often messy way enterprise work gets done on local machines." The argument is that day-to-day office work happens in local folders and desktop apps, places where cloud-based AI tools can't easily reach. Personal Computer for Windows is designed to close that gap.
