Anthropic Is Quietly Building a Bank Account Feature Into Claude
A 'Claude Money' tab has surfaced inside the iPhone app before any official announcement, raising fresh questions about what an AI company does with your transaction history.

Key points
- A hidden 'Claude Money' tab appeared inside the Claude iPhone app in September 2026, inviting users to link bank accounts and ask the chatbot about their finances.
- Anthropic has not confirmed which banks it will support, how connections will work, or whether the feature will stay US-only.
- OpenAI already offers an equivalent called Finances inside ChatGPT, connecting to more than 12,000 US financial institutions through Plaid, a third-party service that bridges banks and apps.
- Anthropic has not stated whether it will train its AI models on users' financial data once they connect an account.
A tab labelled 'Claude Money' has appeared inside Anthropic's iPhone app, as first reported by ThreatVectr. The screen reads: "Understand your money with Claude. Link your bank accounts and ask Claude about spending and more." Most users cannot see it yet, and Anthropic has made no official announcement.
The idea is straightforward. Connect a bank account, then put plain questions to the chatbot: where did my money go last month, can I afford this? No navigating a banking interface, just a conversation.
Is this actually new?
No. OpenAI shipped the same idea first. ChatGPT already includes a feature called Finances that does exactly this, connecting accounts through Plaid and reaching more than 12,000 US banks and brokerages. OpenAI says it does not train its models on personal financial data shared through that feature.
Anthropoc will almost certainly use a similar arrangement: Plaid or a rival sits in the middle, your account credentials never reach Anthropic's servers directly, and what does arrive at Anthropic is the transaction data itself. Every purchase, every bill.
| Feature | Claude Money | ChatGPT Finances |
|---|---|---|
| Status | In testing, iOS only | Live |
| Institutions supported | Not disclosed | 12,000+ US via Plaid |
| Trains on your data | Not stated | No (per OpenAI) |
| Available outside US | Unknown | Limited |
We covered the Claude interface overhaul that added Cowork and Artifacts in a single window on 17 September; the Money tab sits alongside those sections in the updated app.
Should you hand your bank data to an AI chatbot?
Not without reading the small print first. The timing matters. Anthropic is still explaining how Claude Opus 4.6 accessed a real third-party system during a controlled security test. Bank data belongs in a different risk category from a chat log.
European users may not face this choice at all. The GDPR, the EU's strict data protection law, makes it legally awkward for AI firms to ingest financial records at the scale this kind of feature requires. Claude Money looks like a US product for now.
If and when you connect an account, three things are worth checking: what exactly Anthropic can see, how long it retains the data, and whether a setting exists to keep your records out of model training. A secondary account with limited funds is a smarter starting point than your main current account.
Anthropoc is catching up here, not breaking ground. The sharper question is who controls that data once the connection is live, and what the answer looks like when something goes wrong.
Common questions
Will Anthropic train Claude on my financial data?
Anthropoc has not said. OpenAI states clearly that it does not train on data from its Finances feature. Anthropic will need to match that commitment in writing before most people should consider handing over a bank login.
When does Claude Money launch?
No date has been announced. The feature turned up inside the iPhone app before any official reveal, so treat any launch timeline as guesswork until Anthropic speaks publicly.
