Indian startup Runable raises $21 million to help small businesses find customers, not just build websites

The Bengaluru-based startup wants its AI agent to run ads, manage social media and grow a business from scratch, but it is still burning through cash to get there.

Key points

  • Runable, founded in 2025, raised $21 million in a Series A round co-led by Susquehanna Venture Capital and Nexus Venture Partners.
  • The round valued the company at $65 million after investment, according to co-founder and CEO Umesh Kumar.
  • Runable reached a $2 million annualised revenue run rate within three weeks of turning on payments in March 2025.
  • The platform has 1.7 million registered users, with its largest markets in the US, UK and Japan.
  • Runable currently runs at negative gross margins, meaning it costs more to serve customers than it collects from them.

Building a website with AI has become almost trivially easy. Runable, a startup based in Bengaluru, India, thinks that is exactly the problem: everyone can build, but very few people know how to find customers once the site is live. The company just raised $21 million to fix that.

The Series A round, first reported by TechCrunch, was co-led by Susquehanna Venture Capital and Nexus Venture Partners. Existing backers Together Fund and Array VC also joined. The deal valued Runable at $65 million after investment, CEO Umesh Kumar said.

What does Runable actually do?

Runable offers an AI agent, software that carries out multi-step tasks on its own, that lets non-technical users build websites, apps and presentations by typing plain instructions. Now it is pushing into marketing: running ad campaigns, managing social media, handling search-engine optimisation (getting a website to rank higher on Google), and improving how a business appears in AI chatbot results.

Kumar put it plainly: "If I am paying an agency $10,000 to run my Google Ads, can someone come in and do it for me for a lower price? That's where Runable comes in."

The pitch is aimed squarely at small business owners who do not want to wire together a website builder, an analytics tool, an ad account and a social media scheduler. Runable wants to be all of those things in one place.

How does it compare to rivals?

Product Main focus Target user
Runable Build + grow a business Non-technical owners
Cursor Writing and editing code Developers
Lovable Building web apps Developers / designers
Manus / Genspark General-purpose AI tasks Broad consumer
OpenAI Codex / Anthropic Claude Code Code generation Developers

Kumar is not claiming Runable beats coding tools at writing code. For developers, he said, something like Anthropic's Claude Code is still a better fit. Runable is after the shop owner or teacher who just wants customers.

A quick test found some real limits. Asked to build and deploy a site, set up analytics and attract 100 visitors on a $25 ad budget, Runable built the site and prepared a campaign but stopped before spending the money: it needed an external ad account connected first. The startup says it can run ads without that step for ads placed inside ChatGPT, through undisclosed partner arrangements.

Should small business owners pay attention?

Yes, cautiously. The speed is real: Runable says it went from zero to a $2 million annualised revenue run rate in three weeks after launching payments in March 2025. Users collectively consumed more than one trillion tokens (the units of text an AI model processes) over the past 90 days, with 60 to 70 percent of that coming from paying customers.

The caution: Runable is currently spending more to serve customers than it earns from them, a situation Kumar acknowledges openly. The company is betting that the underlying cost of running AI will keep falling fast enough to close that gap. "We are seeing this path where you can provide the same quality of inference at almost 10x less cost," Kumar said.

With a 15-person team and well-funded rivals including OpenAI and Anthropic building their own agents, Runable has a lot to prove. For now, though, it is one of the few products trying to take a small business all the way from "I have an idea" to "I have paying customers."
