These AI Earbuds Record and Summarise Every Conversation You Have

Plaud's new One Explorer Edition looks like ordinary earbuds but quietly transcribes everything around you, then lets an AI agent book meetings and send emails on your behalf.

Key points

  • Plaud launched the One Explorer Edition, AI-powered earbuds that record, transcribe and summarise conversations, priced at $249.99.
  • Each earbud holds up to six hours of audio and the charging case extends total battery life to 36 hours.
  • The case has built-in 4G connectivity, so the device uploads recordings without needing a phone or Wi-Fi.
  • An AI agent built into the case can send Gmail messages, update Google Calendar, post to Slack and create Notion notes automatically.
  • Preorders open now in selected markets, with shipping expected in late September 2026.

Wear them at a meeting. Walk away. Let the AI write your follow-up email.

That's the pitch from Plaud, a hardware company that first made a credit-card-shaped recorder and has now gone all-in on earbuds. As first reported by The Verge AI, the Plaud One Explorer Edition went up for preorder today at $249.99, with delivery expected in late September.

So what does it actually do?

The earbuds listen and summarise, then hand the result to an AI agent (software that can carry out tasks on its own, without you clicking through menus) that connects to Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion and Slack.

Press the AI button on the charging case and the agent can draft emails or schedule meetings, pulling directly from whatever was just recorded. No copy-pasting between apps required.

Each earbud carries three microphones and picks up voices up to two metres away. The charging case adds four microphones with a five-metre range, plus a built-in speaker. Storage is 16MB per earbud and 512MB in the case.

What makes the case unusual?

The case has its own 4G SIM connectivity. It uploads recordings to Plaud's servers independently, without borrowing your phone's data connection or hunting for Wi-Fi. For anyone attending meetings in conference rooms with patchy signal, that's a practical difference worth noting.

Battery life is six hours per charge from the earbuds alone, stretching to 36 hours with the case as a power bank. The case recharges over USB-C.

Plaud calls the underlying AI system "Plaud Intelligence," describing it as built to "understand and execute on human intent." In plain terms: it's supposed to infer whether you want a bullet-point summary or a full action-items list, rather than making you dig through settings.

Should you be thinking about privacy?

A device that records continuously captures other people's voices, not just yours, and those recordings travel over 4G to Plaud's cloud servers for processing. Our 21 August story on Meta AI glasses that are hard to spot recording showed how quickly ambient-recording devices can collide with workplace and legal norms, and earbuds raise the same questions in a smaller package.

Check your employer's rules before bringing these into a meeting room. Europe's consent laws and several US states require all parties to agree before being recorded, so the legal position matters before you press record.

Plaud hasn't published a detailed privacy policy for the One Explorer Edition yet. Wait for that before committing a preorder deposit.

Common questions

Can the earbuds play music like normal earbuds?

Plaud hasn't confirmed standard audio playback. The device is designed primarily as a recording and AI assistant tool, so don't assume it replaces your everyday earbuds until the company says otherwise.

Does the AI agent act automatically or does it ask permission first?

Based on current details, you press the AI button to trigger the agent. It doesn't appear to act without that prompt, but full details on unsupervised behaviour aren't yet public.

When does it ship?

Plaud says shipping starts in late September 2026. Preorders are open now in selected markets.
