Key points

  • Google added flight price tracking, hotel booking, and reward-points search to AI Mode in an announcement on Thursday.
  • Flight price alerts are now available in more than 180 countries, pulling live prices from over 300 airlines and travel sites.
  • Hotel booking has started rolling out in the United States in English, with partners including Marriott, Hilton, Expedia, and Booking.com.
  • Points and miles searches are available globally, letting users ask how many frequent-flyer miles a specific trip will cost.

Google's AI Mode, the conversational search experience that lets you type or speak questions and get a flowing, chat-like answer instead of a list of links, just got a meaningful upgrade for anyone who books travel.

The company announced on Thursday that AI Mode can now track flight prices, help complete hotel bookings, and show you how many reward points or miles a trip would cost. Taken together, the additions push the feature from a research tool into something closer to an actual booking assistant.

What can it actually do?

Three new things, and they work the way a conversation would. For flights, you describe where and when you want to fly, and AI Mode pulls current prices from more than 300 airlines and booking sites. If you like what you see, you can start building an itinerary. If you want to wait for a better deal, you ask it to track the price, and Google emails you when it changes. That tracking feature works in more than 180 countries.

For hotels, you describe your trip and your preferences, and the tool returns a list of options with reviews and key details such as cancellation policies. When you find one you want, you select "Continue on Google" and complete the booking through Google Pay. The hotel or booking platform handles the actual reservation and any customer service after that.

Partners at launch include Booking.com, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels and Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, and Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, among others.

What about frequent-flyer points?

This is the feature frequent travellers will notice most. You can now ask AI Mode something like "I want to fly Atlanta to Miami using my AA miles, nonstop, October 9 to 12" and see exactly how many miles that trip costs. The update works globally and covers both flights and hotels.

Feature Coverage Status

Flight price tracking 180+ countries Live now
Hotel booking United States, English Rolling out
Points and miles search Global Live now

What does this mean for ordinary travellers?

Practically, it means one fewer app to open when you are planning a trip. Price alerts in particular have existed on Google Flights for years, but bringing them into a conversational interface makes them easier to set for people who find traditional search results hard to read.

The hotel booking flow does pass the final transaction to the hotel or platform, so your booking confirmation and cancellation rights sit with them, not Google. Keep that in mind if something goes wrong: the hotel's customer service team is your first call, not Google's.

First reported by TechCrunch AI, the changes are rolling out now.
