Good morning, it is Thursday, the thirteenth of August, and we are leading with a guitar string maker who spent nearly two weeks lying about an AI-generated audio track before quietly admitting it on social media.

D'Addario, the guitar accessories company, has confirmed it used Suno Studio, an AI music-generation tool, to recreate audio in a promotional video for a new set of guitar strings. Suno lets you describe a sound or feed in a recording, and the software produces finished-sounding music. The problem is that D'Addario denied using it for almost two weeks, deleting critical comments and blocking users who raised the question. The admission did not come through a fresh statement. The company quietly edited its original twenty-ninth of July denial post on Instagram to include it. Guitarist and YouTuber Rhett Shull obtained the original Logic recording files from the company, and those files helped confirm the AI involvement. D'Addario says it will now require employees and creative partners to disclose any generative AI use going forward.

The deletion of comments and the back-channel edit say as much as the original deception. Next, a survey result that anyone building or buying physical AI systems should read carefully.

A survey of more than seven hundred AI professionals, reported by IEEE Spectrum, finds that bad data, not weak algorithms, is the main reason physical AI systems fail before they reach the real world. Physical AI covers the systems that drive cars, guide robotic arms, and steer delivery drones. These systems read video feeds, laser-based three-dimensional scans, and sensor streams arriving thousands of times a second. That is a very different problem from training a language model on text scraped from the internet. The survey found that teams who successfully ship physical AI products spend nearly three times as long preparing and curating data as teams whose projects stall. Seventy-eight percent of respondents already see measurable results from physical AI, yet seventy-four percent believe the field receives far less investment than it deserves.

The Pixel Watch five will offer monthly summaries of blood pressure and insulin resistance trends through the Google Health app. Gemini, Google's AI assistant, runs through the full product line.

Useful to see ASL translation built into a mainstream device rather than treated as a third-party add-on. Moving on, a contact management app has made the jump to Android.

Mesh, a personal contact management app owned by Automattic, the company behind WordPress dot com, is now available on Android phones, tablets, and foldables. Automattic acquired the app, previously called Clay, last year. The idea is straightforward: you store contacts, write notes about people, and set reminders to follow up before you lose touch. The Android version supports split-screen, home screen widgets, keyboard shortcuts, and real-time sync across devices. A feature called Nexus AI, currently in early access, lets users search contacts by company, city, or area of expertise using plain language rather than exact-match fields. Mesh is free for up to one thousand contacts, with paid tiers for larger networks. The company says around seventy percent of current users are professionals.

SEW-EURODRIVE, the German automation company founded in nineteen thirty-one and headquartered in Bruchsal, has added three lower-cost planetary gear units to its PxG product line. Planetary gear units are the precision mechanical boxes that translate a motor's spinning shaft into controlled, torque-rich movement in factory machines. The company already sold high-precision grades in this family. The new P1.G, P2.G, and P3.G grades sit below those, trading some precision for a lower price on machines that do not need the extra capability. They cover peak torque ratings from eleven to five hundred Newton metres across five sizes, and SEW-EURODRIVE says rated service life exceeds twenty thousand hours, matching the longevity of the higher-precision models. Target applications include packaging lines, carton erectors, gantry robots, and assembly equipment with low to medium mechanical demands.
